Former Chair of the Department of Medicine, Dr. Douglas, Jr., Receives Alumni Award of Distinction

Dr. R. Gordon Douglas, Jr., one of a long line of illustrious Chairs of the Department of Medicine (from 1982 to 1990), was honored with the Alumni Award of Distinction on May 29. Dr. Laurie Glimcher, Dean of Weill Cornell Medicine College, as well as the WCMC Alumni Association, presented Dr. Douglas with a commemorative plaque in celebration of this prestigious award. A Weill Cornell alumnus, Dr. Douglas completed his residency training at NYP/WC and Johns Hopkins. He is currently a Professor Emeritus of Medicine at Weill Cornell, and previously served at the University of Rochester and Baylor College of Medicine. In 1999, he retired as president of Merck Vaccines. The Alumni Award of Distinction was established in 1949 and recognizes an alumnus who has demonstrated exceptional achievement in academic medicine that has brought honor and acclaim to the medical college.
