Division of Nephrology & Hypertension Rises to #3 Nationally in U.S. News Rankings

NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital's Division of Nephrology & Hypertension was ranked # 3 in the nation out of more than 1600 hospitals evaluated by U.S. News & World Report for its 2012-13 Best Hospitals rankings, which were published on July 16, 2012. This is an upward move from the #5 spot held last year. Dr. Manikkam Suthanthiran, Chief of the Division of Nephrology and Hypertension, notes that "the ranking was based on reputation, volume and other patient-care factors, but fundamentally it is due to the hard work and dedication of our compassionate physicians and staff who strive to deliver the highest-quality care to patients and their families."

U.S. News also singled out several Division of Nephrology and Hypertension physicians as among the Top 10% in the New York region. They were: Dr. Phyllis August; Dr. Jon Blumenfeld; Dr. Stuart Saal; Dr. Raymond Sherman; and Dr. John Wang.

The U.S. News ranking was one of several recent honors for the Division of Nephrology and Hypertension. Dr. Phyllis August was named the First Norton Luger Professor of Obstetric Medicine, an endowed lecture for the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at WCMC in April. Dr. Samuel J. Mann recently published a book, Hypertension and You: Old Drugs, New Drugs, and the Right Drugs, with Rowan & Littlefield. Two physicians, Dr. Manikkam Suthanthiran and Dr. Thangamani Muthukumar, recently delivered invited talks internationally - Dr. Suthanthiran in Doha, Qatar and Berlin, Germany, Dr. Muthukumar in Beaune, France. Dr. Mark Pecker was named Associate Program Director for the Weill Cornell/Rockefeller/Sloan Kettering Tri-Institutional MD-PhD Program. One of the Nephrology Fellows, Dr. Pallavi Patri, received the Fellow Research Award from the New York Society of Nephrology.
