Dr. Logio Elected to 3-Year Term on APDIM Council

Dr. Lia Logio has been elected to a 3-year term on the Council of the Association of Program Directors in Internal Medicine (APDIM). Recruited to the Department of Medicine in 2010, Dr. Logio is the Herbert J. and Ann L. Siegel Distinguished Professor of Medicine, Director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program, and Vice Chair for Education. A long-time member of the APDIM, she previously served on APDIM's Educational Innovations Program Leadership Team.

APDIM is a nationally and internationally recognized organization that is influential in educational reform and public policy, particularly in the United States and Canada, and has more than 2,115 members representing 368 U.S. and international internal medicine residency programs. As a newly-elected councilor, Dr. Logio will be honored at an APDIM awards luncheon to be held in Atlanta in the spring.

Before joining the Department of Medicine at NYP/WCMC, Dr. Logio served as Program Director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program at Indiana University School of Medicine, where she was also Assistant Dean of Faculty Affairs and Professional Development. A leader in innovative educational training programs, she recently instituted a new curriculum in the Department of Medicine for residents-in-training that addresses new skills required for physicians in the current ever-changing healthcare delivery system. The curriculum provides important core concepts about patient safety and quality care by focusing on the process of improving the delivery of care; it is part of a nation-wide push across the healthcare sector to emphasize new standards in quality and safety.

Dr. Logio received her MD from The Johns Hopkins University and completed residency training in internal medicine at Duke University Medical Center. Her teaching honors include: the Sol Goldman Award in Geriatrics from Johns Hopkins; nomination (twice) for the Eugene A. Stead Teaching Award as well as the Golden Apple Teaching Award at Duke; the Haskill Schiff Award for Excellence in Clinical Medicine and an Engel Society Faculty Inductee at Duke; and an Outstanding Teacher Award in General Internal Medicine and Geriatrics from Indiana University. She has served as the Editor of Board Basics for the American College of Physicians and as a Contributor to its Medical Knowledge Self-Assessment Program.
