Department of Medicine Welcomes Interim Co-Chiefs for New Division of Hospital Medicine

The Department of Medicine is delighted to announce that Dr. Salvatore Cilmi and Dr. Anthony Ogedegbe have agreed to serve as Co-Chiefs of the new Division of Hospital Medicine. The Department of Medicine began a national search for a Division Chief (and additional Hospitalists) a few months ago. We hope to welcome a new chief by July 2009. Under Dr. Ogedegbe's and Dr. Cilmi's capable interim leadership, we are confident that our new Division of Hospital Medicine will grow and prosper. We are grateful to Drs. Ogedegebe and Cilmi-and their colleagues Drs. Vishal Dodhia, Eva Flores and John Pfeifer-for their help in guiding us through the challenging months ahead.

Dr. Salvatore A. Cilmi is a native of New York and a graduate of Harvard College (A.B.) and Harvard Medical School (M.D. and A.M. in Biological Chemistry). He completed his residency in Medicine at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston (2001), his fellowship in Infectious Disease at the Partners Hospitals (2003) and then served as Chief Resident in Medicine at MGH (2003-04). Since 2004, Dr. Cilmi has served as Attending Physician in Medicine and Infectious Disease at Massachusetts General Hospital where he has made major contributions to its Clinician-Educator group, house staff programs and clinical clerkships. The winner of prestigious teaching awards at Harvard Medical School and a published researcher, Dr. Cilmi joined the Weill Cornell hospitalist group only a few months ago but has already distinguished himself as an exceptional clinician, teacher and scholar. Please join us in welcoming him to the faculty and his new important leadership role.

Dr. Anthony-Emmanuel O. Ogedegbe is a native of Port Harcourt, Nigeria and a graduate of the University of Rochester (B.S.) and the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry (M.D.) He completed his residency in Medicine at the Massachusetts General Hospital (2001) and his fellowship in Infectious Disease at the John Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore (2003). Since 2003, Dr. Ogedegbe has served as Assistant Attending Physician at Weill Cornell Medical Center/NewYork-Presbyterian where he worked in the Center for Special Studies, the Infectious Diseases consult service and, most recently, as a hospitalist attending physician on the general medical inpatient services. An outstanding clinician and teacher, Dr. Ogedegbe has become one of the most admired clinician-educators in the Department of Medicine. Please join us in welcoming him to the faculty and his new important leadership role.
