Weill Cornell Medical Associates (WCIMA) Was A Major Site For ACCORD Study

Weill Cornell Medical Associates (WCIMA), the primary practice for the Division of Internal Medicine in the Department of Medicine at WCMC, was a major site for the ACCORD study, an NIH-sponsored clinical trial spanning ten years, investigating the aggressive management of Diabetes. The WCIMA site for the trial recruited over 80 patients into the study. The knowledge gained from this pivotal study is proving to be critical to our emerging understanding of the management of Type 2 Diabetes. Dr. David Brillon of Endocrinology was the local PI at the time of publication. Other physicians from the Department of Medicine have been involved in this study, including Drs. B. Robert Meyer, Fran Ganz, and Ms. Esther Wei, A.N.P., C.D.E. as well as former WCIMA physicians Drs. Sheila Anderson and Jeffrey Paley. The study was published in the New England Journal of Medicine on June 12, 2008.
