Core Curriculum Conference Series

Weekly Infectious Disease Clinical Conference Rounds (Tuesday, 4:00 - 5:00 PM). Fellows on the inpatient service present infectious disease cases of interest. The presentation is following by a discussion with members of the faculty and brief review of the pertinent literature. Guest discussants may be invited and members of the hospital microbiology laboratory and ID PharmDs attend.

Advanced Topics in Infectious Diseases Lecture Series ( Friday from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm in conjunction with MSKCC.) The lecture series is geared towards ID physicians, fellows, and allied personnel (e.g., nursing, pharmacists, research assistants, microbiology staff) where local and nationally known experts are invited to discourse on a variety of topics ranging from the management of infections in immuno-compromised patients, to pivotal clinical trials, to emerging infections, to basic science breakthroughs that will have impact on patient care. The overall objective is to improve the outcome of patients with infections.

Fellows Journal Club (Tuesday- 8:30-9:30 AM). This is a combined conference with MSKCC. It alternates locations each week. This journal club has 2 goals: (1) to keep up with a wide range of medical literature and (2) to learn the art of critiquing papers.

Specialty Case Conferences (Thursdays 10:15-11:00 AM). Fellows meet with either a specialist in infections in transplant recipients or orthopedic/joint infections on alternating Thursdays to discuss interesting cases and patient management.

CSS/HIV Conference held every Friday at 12:00 noon in the Baker 24 Conference Room. Multifunctional conference in which fellows and faculty present recent paper or relevant didactic lecture related to HIV/AIDS. Once monthly the conference serves to review ongoing HIV-related research at Cornell’s Clinical Trials Unit.

Faculty Journal Club – Are generally held on the 2nd Thursday of the month from 8:30-9:30am in A-450. Full time and Voluntary faculty present recent papers related to infectious diseases.


Faculty Research – Are generally held on the 3rd Thursday of every month from 8:30-9:30am in A-450. Full time faculty members present a research seminar of their research activities.


Fellow’s Research in Progress – Are generally held on the 4th Thursday of every month from 8:30-9:30am in A-450. Beginning in the fall, second and third year fellows will present their initial data and plans for future work. Later in the academic year, first year fellows will present their research plans. Research faculty and all fellows are expected to attend these meetings and provide constructive feedback to the presenting fellows. The goal is to optimize the fellow’s research plan and foster collaboration between the division.


Clinical Journal Club/Faculty Research Conference (Friday- 12:30-1:30 PM). Fellows and faculty present recent papers related to infectious diseases or full time faculty members present a research seminar of their research activities. Lunch is provided.


Department of Microbiology and Immunology Research Seminars are generally the first Monday of the month, 4:00-5:30, B-307: A faculty member or fellow presents ongoing research. Pizza is provided.


Infection Control Committee meetings are held on the fourth Thursday of every month (except August) at 9:30 AM in the Starr 7 Conference Room. Current issues/publishers related to infection control at the hospital are discussed.


Additional Conferences


Medical Grand Rounds are Tuesdays at 12:00 noon in Uris Auditorium. Many Grand rounds cover topics pertinent to infectious diseases.


Inter-City Rounds are held at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell or MSKCC and involve fellow presentations from the respective inpatient consult services. ID specialists/faculty from the NYC area listen to the case presentations.


The Aaron Diamond AIDS Center Conferences are held weekly on Mondays at noon in the 6th floor conference room at Rockefeller University.


Fellows also have the opportunity to attend subspecialty and research seminars available in the tri-institutional area (Weill Cornell, MSKCC, Rockefeller University).
