The Department of Medicine at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical College has a long standing tradition of excellence in medical education.  Led by Vice Chair for Education, Dr. Lia Logio, the department provides medical students, residents and fellows with a rich learning environment to hone their clinical skills, practice evidence based medicine, and think critically about their patients.  Through a wealth of educational resources, mentoring from our distinguished faculty and rigorous training, our graduates build a foundation of excellence for academic careers in clinical practice and research. Based on our enduring commitment to education, we continue to produce outstanding physicians, physician-scientists and academic clinicians.

The Residency Program in Internal Medicine is a top-tier competitive program with three training tracks including the traditional categorical program, a primary care program and the medical research pathway.

New York City offers a tremendous diversity in patient populations and disease entities.  The Department has an established commitment to increasing that diversity by its well developed global health programs in Haiti and Tanzania.

A more recent addition to the educational venues has been our partnership with the medical community in Ithaca, New York, near the main Cornell University campus.  Students and residents can now participate in electives that focus on rural health, student and adolescent health, and community hospital medicine.

The Department additionally offers subspecialty training through our

fellowship programs, including cardiology (general, electrophysiology, and interventional), gastroenterology and hepatology, geriatrics, health services research, hematology-oncology, infectious disease, nephrology, and pulmonary-critical care. Our rheumatology fellowship utilizes our neighbor, the Hospital for Special Surgery, for its training through the departmental faculty in that division.  In addition, our other partner institution, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, has additional fellowship training opportunities in hematology-oncology as well as critical care, gastroenterology, infectious disease, pulmonary, pain, and palliative care.
