Fund for Medicine

What is The Fund For Medicine?

The Fund For Medicine supports endeavors in the Department that truly make a difference in:

  • delivering outstanding patient care
  • the education of physician-scientists
  • the development of groundbreaking research

Our physicians receive patients from all walks of life from the multicultural communities of New York City, as well as from the Nation and around-the-world. The cross-section of diseases seen in the Department of Medicine is like none other in the world and covers the full spectrum.

The Department of Medicine and the Fund for Medicine encompasses general internal medicine, geriatrics and primary care, as well as the medical specialties of cardiology, gastroenterology and hepatology, oncology, hematology, endocrinology, diabetes and metabolic diseases, infectious diseases, global health, pulmonary disease and critical care, kidney disease (nephrology), women's health, hospital medicine, and rheumatology.

Many of our patients face life-threatening diseases, from cancers and heart disease, to kidney and infectious diseases. Life-saving therapies and treatments provided within the Department of Medicine have ensured successful outcomes for our patients.

We are also providing much more than "hope" in underserved areas, in countries such as Brazil, Tanzania, and Haiti. Some of our top physician-scientists travel to these areas, building patient care and research centers. Up-and-coming physician-scientists apply to our department in large numbers seeking the unparalleled training experience we offer.
